Our Princess turned 5 on Christmas Eve! Hard to believe that she will be starting kindergarten in the Fall. There was no way around the Princess theme, so instead of trying to re-direct her to something new, I decided to embrace it. After all, I don't expect her to be into dressing up in fancy dresses, donning beautiful necklaces & boas, getting her hair and nails done and wearing heels for the rest of her life, do I? Heh. I know. I better shut up.
Soooo---the tea party idea was born! I scoured the local resale & consignment shops and found a fairly nice silver tea pot set to use. After a little elbow grease and TLC, it shined up pretty good too.
We found this beautiful ballerina dress on sale way before Thanksgiving. Of course, Allison fell in love with it because it was so bee-you-tiful. How can I deny her of such bee-you-tiful things? ESPECIALLY one with sparkles and flowers on it??
Hubby even got into the spirit of things and served as the Butler, "Chives". Jeeves was just too classy a name for him. Besides, Chives fits him better. LOL. He dressed up in his suit, answered the door and served the guests. Man, I could get used to that kind of service around here all the time!
We invited her cousins and friends to come in their favorite dress up clothes. We had a few fancy hors' deurves, drank sparking cider punch (a new recipe I found that was very good) with the fancy punch bowl and cups & gave the guests feather boas and necklaces as party favors. The girls decorated foam crowns and we played "Pin the Crown on the Princess".
A word of caution about feather boas---it wasn't long before my house looked like I was raising a chicken coop full of pink & purple chickens. The feathers were everywhere. Oh well--it was a spin off from confetti I guess.
I must thank my Aunt Pam for her wonderful idea of having a "red carpet" for the girls to walk on. Doing a Christmas birthday around Christmas time meant it had to be done on the cheap--so a real red carpet was out. But, I found some red wrapping paper (ok, there were white polka dots on it, but nobody batted an eye about it) & it was just as if the girls were in Hollywood!
I know she enjoyed her party & I hope the rest of the princesses did too.
The above picture really means a lot to me. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in our family. Hubby & I joined the Methodist Church in town and all four of us were baptized last Sunday. We've been attending church on a regular basis for the past year and we decided to make a commitment to that church. I'll share a funny about our baptism too. We had explained the baptism process to both kids beforehand. Keeping in mind how "literal" kids can be. At the beginning of the service, Cole wanted to know what river we were going to, to be baptized in. He remembered that was an option, but since it was only about 4 degrees outside and the windchill was below that, we explained that really wasn't a good option today. We were only going to be "sprinkled" with water. :)
